Here you have a list of recommended software for people with different needs. We have included those which are more compatible for both Windows and Linux environments, to ease the transition between both systems.
The best option are the original drivers of your hardware. If you did not get an Installation CD, most of them can be downloaded from the manufacturer's website.
+ Antivir has proven to be efficient in the control of malware. Besides, it has a very good free version for home users.
+ Avast would be our second option.
+ 7zip would be our first option. It has proven to be clean and efficient in data compressing. It is free, but we recommend you to create executable self-extracting files to avoid compatibility problems.
+ Opera has proven to be fast, neat and respectful of the current Internet standards. It is free and it also helps the user get the resources he or she is missing to view a given web page.
+ Flash viewer can be downloaded from Adobe's website for free.
+ McAfee's SiteAdvisor is the ideal supplement. If you install it on your computer, it can warn you whether the web page you are entering is risky for you and which are those risks.
+ Sun's Java Runtime Environment is still the best choice.
+ OpenOffice is probably the new standard. It is powerful and reliable. It includes a word processor, a spreadsheet, presentations, a program to draw, a database manager and a program to design mathematical formulae. It is free, compatible with Microsoft's software, it does not leave temporary files in the computer and it can export files to .pdf format without any additional software.
+ We liked JetAudio a lot because it can not only play music and watch videos but it also rips and burns CDs.
+ VLM would be our second option.
+ Foxit Reader. It does the same compared to Adobe's reader, but it weighs 90% less than the latter.
Our recommendation depends on your need:
+ Picasa is easy, efficient and offers many alternatives to the users.
+ GIMP. It is very efficient and, besides, free.
+ Inkscape. It is very efficient and, besides, free.
+ Meebo.com. It is Internet-based and that makes it clean and easy. That is to say it connects you to all your IM accounts without downloads. The disadvantage is that it does not allow you to share files without an e-mail.
+ Trillian would be our second option. It allows you to connect all your IM services with one single software, audio y video included. Besides, it has a free version.
+ Bluefish would be our choice for Linux.
+ Notetab would be our choice for Windows.
+ Dreamweaver is still their best option. Its "friends": Fireworks, Flash and Freehand make it even more powerful.
+ HtmlTidy es a simple and free utility that checks out your code and corrects your errors automatically. It is closely related to the current Internet standards.
+ Forms2Go reads your web page forms and creates the necessary routines without the need of pre-publish your web page and test it on-line. It is a very cheap program.
+ CCleaner has proven to be excellent in the deletion of unnecessary files in the computer.
+ Norton Speed Disk is still the best file defragmenter and optimizer out there.
+ Revo uninstaller is also very useful in the uninstallation of software from a machine.
+ Companies usually need to send e-mail messages to a large database of customers. For them, Listrak email list software appears as a complete email marketing solution.
