Before you buy a computer

Buying a computer is not always an easy task. There are a lot of variants, brands and offers available in the market. Don't you know what to choose? Take a look at these recommendations:

+ The first thing you need to buy is a motherboard. This is where the devices of the computer are going to be installed, so you need to buy a good one. What does a good motherboard have? It has slots to install independent video and sound cards, and capability for buying a better processor in the future.

+ The processor is the second thing in the list. Before buying one, think on what you are buying your computer for. If you are going to use it for simple tasks, such as surfing the Internet, checking your e-mail, typing documents or listening to music, usually a class 'B' processor is more than enough. On the other hand, if you are going to need high performance in graphics or sound, to use several applications at the same time to work, or any other work which usually conceives advance knowledge of programming or design, then you must spend a little more and purchase a class 'A' processor for your machine. If you are finally buying a class 'B' processor, then try not to use more than three applications at the same time. Your computer will work slowly if you do.

+ Contrary to common thought, the most important thing you need to buy for your machine is the memory. Invest as much as you can reasonably spend in it, because it is here where the computer will process your files and, therefore, the more is really the better. Do not hesitate sacrificing hard disk or secondary devices to purchase a good amount of memory. You will see you will really thank it.

+ Built-in or independent video card? An independent video card, definitely. If you purchase a motherboard with a built-in video card, the computer will take its video memory from your main memory slots. And this is not convenient. There is no need to buy a too powerful video card if you are not going to work in design. You can save a lot of bills there.

+ Independent or built-in sound card? This is less relevant, as a matter of fact. You can choose a built-in sound card if you are going to listen to your .mp3 files only.

+ A huge hard disk? Think twice if you really need it. Are you buying a computer for your house or office? Or you are planning to set up an Internet server?

+ Think on the same for your other devices... Do you really need a DVD or a keyboard with so many lights and buttons? Remember that, despite technology has improved a lot, the main purpose of a computer has not changed. It was made to help mankind ease its management of information, not to overwhelm customers with accessories they will never need. Save your money.
